The Evolution of Pearl Clothing
Pearl began about five years ago as a one room (experimental) business in the upstairs of a consignment shop selling edgy resale clothing not available anywhere else in the Northern Neck area. We loved recycling and customers loved our look, so we began expanding- First to two rooms…then three… then to a whole 1200 square foot space.
As we grew, we were unable to find enough resale pieces to sell and began adding new items. Our first brand was Cut Loose out of San Francisco, CA. The response was overwhelming as we sold out of our first order in just 2 weeks!
Then in the Fall of 2012, it was rumored the space at 35 South Main Street in Kilmarnock was becoming available and so I RAN down the street (those who know me, know I don’t run), and burst into what was a lighting store and said, “Who do I call about renting this space?”
Once we moved to 35 South Main Street, Pearl truly began to take off. We brought our customer base with us, but our visibility on the street level brought us so many new customers that we found ourselves in a panic to fill the space with enough merchandise. What a great problem to have!
Now in our third year in the “new” store, we are carrying over a dozen USA made Clothing brands and several Fair Trade brands as well. We also carry handmade jewelry, Sterling Estate jewelry, and a bit of costume jewelry.
We love helping our customers find something to feel beautiful, comfortable and stylish in. We can fit almost any body type and carry many generously sized brands.
We have trunk shows for some of our brands and trunk shows for artists selling their handmade wares.
We have tried to create a friendly, funky atmosphere that people want to keep coming to and we have been accused many times of just “having too much fun in here.”
